Skinny laMinx is a design company based in Cape Town, South Africa. What began in 2007 as a small one-person studio created by Heather Moore, has now grown into a thriving business, designing and manufacturing a broad range of striking prints, accessories and products for the home. Heather’s designs draw on her local environment and global experience. There’s a feeling of Scandinavian simplicity, pared-down Japanese minimalism, and South African exuberance all rolled into one fresh, eye-catching and distinctive style!
Skinny laMinx products are sold all over the world, with design and production happening locally in South Africa. They have a beautiful shop on Bree Street, Cape Town with a studio above where Heather designs and a dedicated team of seamstresses are responsible for all cutting and sewing. All designs are printed on cotton or cotton/linen basecloth using water-based inks.
I worked with Skinny laMinx as a consultant trainer and mentor during 2013 and 2014 as part of CBI’S Export Coaching Programme (Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries), an initiative of the Dutch Government. What I love about Skinny laMinx is their clean, clear, funky design style, their flurry of innovative ideas to promote their South African brand, their attention to detail and quality, their friendly professional service, and their openess to working in new ways in an ever evolving market place. I am very happy to be promoting a selection of Skinny LaMinx products via my f.o.a.k pop-up ‘real’ shops and on-line initiatives.
